Quick Notes from the Bartender Side of the Bar
Today has been interesting already. I just had one of my regular customers tell me his doctor prescribed some antibiotics, but he isn’t going to take them until mid next week because of some fishing (aka beer drinking) trips planned this week. I said, “So… let the infection keep on rolling?” He said, “You bet. I’m not going to not drink beer when I go fishing.” Good point.
Tonight I’m taking a break from bartending to attend a city commission meeting. Our town is finally trying to update some of the outdated drinking laws. This ordinance aims to put liquor on the same playing field as beer. Right now bars can serve beer 7am – 2am, 365 days a year. Liquor and wine, however, are six days a week unless you have a restaurant license, in which case you can serve on Sundays from 1pm – 12am. That causes all kinds of ridiculousness, including bars doing the bare minimum to be considered a restaurant, etc. And why can people drink beer until 2am, but wine only until 12am? Not smart. Crossing my fingers.
